Jeanne-Marie Elder
As a child, Jeanne-Marie Elder used writing as a powerful tool for self-expression and creativity and was encouraged by her teachers to pursue the craft. Now, debuting her new picture book, The Big Escape, Jeanne-Marie finds inspiration from understanding what sparks the imagination, evokes emotion, and teaches valuable lessons to children.
Jeanne-Marie believes a great story is one with engaging and relatable characters and imaginative world-building. She hopes her stories create an emotional connection with young readers and provide a sense of wonder and new perspective that stays with them long after the book is closed.
Jeanne-Marie has been in education for over a decade. When she isn’t writing heartwarming stories for children, she enjoys spending time with her children and their dog Pepper, a Chiweenie, and traveling. Originally from Maraval Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Jeanne-Marie moved to the U.S. with her parents when she was two years old and later became a citizen of Texas in 2007. She lives with her family in North Dallas.
